James Jennings, known though out the community as “AKIL” is a man of many talents and a passion for people.  He is the former host of the home grown soul radio show on V101.1FM, but he is also a very talented artist, a music producer, graphic designer, web developer, and IT guy.  Akil has founded an organization called Promote the Peace (www.promotethepeace.com) connecting teens that parents to organizations to provide resources and employment opportunities.

February 2011 Akil was sworn into the NAACP executive committee as the community outreach chairman. When asked about what motivates him to work so hard for the community, this was his response: “as a child, i grew up in a pretty rough environment. Drugs and violence decimated my own family and everyone around me. That led me down a path of many adversities. I realized one thing, that I had to do something to help, and I continue to help in every way i can.”

Akil’s creativity and leadership has given many opportunities to the artist community in Sacramento and he continues to create opportunities that will assist recording artists, young people, and the community at large.
